This nest was at eye level right in the Yuba Pass summit campground -- thanks to Peter LaTourrette for pointing it out to me. I have also observed a Cassin's Vireo male singing from a nest, one similarly conspicuous at eye level a few feet from a popular trailhead. Singing from the nest is a behavior that seems at first glance unlikely to be adaptive, but it is common among several vireo species.
