NUTRIA

Bachman Lake

This is a rodent, called a Nutria. They are found in Southern Texas and Louisiana as well as South America. This one I found in Bachman Lake in Dallas,which is in North Central Texas, while heading over to my folk's house last Wednesday afternoon. Have never seen one up here before and they are usually nocturnal animals. It is still a rat, just one that swims. It has a beaver looking face but the tail is unmistakeable. It is a rat and a very big one at that!

I would not eat this even if someone lent it to me. I don't believe there is anything edible in a giant rat. But I rarely eat meat anyhow so who am I to say?
Getting back on track, a nice capture, Cindi. Did you capture this?

that's strange...how the heck did that get all the way up to dallas? looking for women nutria? more nutria trivia: some south americans will tell you that these are good to eat, especially during Lent. since it's aquatic it's therefore a "fish." ;-)
