The Southern way to fix up a turkey. This one was juicy and very, very good. Cornbread stuffing was to die for...My grandmother's recipe handed down. Ingredients are:
1 large loaf of bread toasted and crumbled
1 pan of cornbread (no sugar in it) crumbled
4 eggs
3 tsp of salt
2 tablespoons of sage
2 tsps of poultry seasoning
1/2 c margarine
2 c chopped onion
2 c chopped celery
1-2 cups chicken broth
Melt margerine and slowly cook the onion and celery with lid on til soft...do not brown and then set aside.
Put bread in a large bowl and pour broth enough to soften it and then add the cornbread with enough broth to soften it. Then add all the rest of the ingredients and mix together by hand...put some in the turkey and the rest surrounding it and then cook it in a self-basting roaster at 300-325 degrees and cook until done...depending on the size of the turkey. Will be tasty and juicy! Yummy!
I love this stuffing and will eat no other except this. Thanksgiving is my favorite meal all year. I will be making it next year. :)
