GOODBYE, STUMPY!!

Stumpy had to be put to sleep today, July 10, 2009, due to injuries from an attack by coyotes. Annette, one of Stumpy's friends emailed me today and told me the sad news. Seems like 10 geese are missing and there is believed to be at least 2 packs of coyotes out at White Rock Lake and they are feeding on the geese. Most of the geese have been at the lake for many, many years. We know of one goose that is guarding a few others in a different area as that is what she does when one of the geese gets injured. And all of the geese now have moved to the other side of the lake. They are so traumatized by the attacks that they now reside near the boat house. Charles has gone down to feed them but he lost one of his best friends today. Stumpy, given the name because of a birth defect in one of his feet, was a friend to all.

I'm so saddened that I will never again get to see Stumpy and be able to take pictures of him and just enjoy everyone enjoying him. Rest in peace, sweet friend. You will be terribly missed!

What a sad story. Our geese each have their own personality; and it is so hard to take their death. I live in Rowlett and raise ducks and geese as out pets and for eggs. I am wondering if any of you have seen a pair of African greys, one with a split foot, a female, and the other is a large gander with an orange ring around his eyes. To make a long story short:

Trying to contact Sonya N. Herbert. She took a photo published Monday, Feb 7, 2011 of a lady feeding geese at White Rock lake. The DMN, about three years ago, in NeighborsGo Rockwall, Rowlett, did a story on the goose who walked children across the street, (Sam)Aggie, and also on my search for him, because I had raised then lost, then found him at Waterview in Rowlett after 15 years.

After finding him again, I decided to leave him there, since he had lived there for so many years, and I would return every other week, and feed him and the mate we took for him. The HOA decided to get rid of the geese, and did it in the middle of the night without telling all of the home owners, last summer. There are two geese in the photo I referenced above, in the background - African greys, who look like the goose couple, and I wanted to know if I could have a digital copy, or if the photographer could tell me if the large African grey, the gander, has orange circles around his eyes. If so, I'm pretty sure that is my lost Aggie. I would really appreciate it if you can help me with this information?

We have coyotes around here also, and from what I understand they are coming back strong in many metro areas around the country.

This breaks my heart because I love all animals and know the big capacity they have for love "all animals" if only you take the time to let them show you. Stumpy story touch my heart big, since I just lost my sweet loving puppy Tiny he was just one year old, yes, only one year old but he give to me a life time love! I love him so much that I'm sick in body for the pain, I have other dogs that I love tremendously also but my Tiny's love was one special love! The compassion look on his eyes if I have a headache or feel bad was incredible! My green eye Shih-Tzu was special! he is with God now in heaven and forever in my heart!

That truly breaks my heart. My daughter and I had visited Stumpy several times. After a while, he even allowed us to pet him. He will be missed

I'm so sorry, sometimes it's hard to understand Mother Nature. Hopefully the coyotes will leave the rest alone, but I doubt it, so maybe someone can help the geese out and encourage them to leave and find someone else to bother!

I looked forward to seeing your pictures of Stumpy, feel like I know him. Charlie gave him a good life, I know he must be missing him too. Seems like I have heard a lot of stories of the coyotes coming out more and more. It seems like when it gets hot like this is when they come out. RIP Stumpy.
