Cecropia trees are often found growing in forest clearings and along stream and river edges. They are one of the best places for seeing sloths, not that sloths prefer them over other trees, but because the crowns are so open it is much easier to spot the sloth when it is in one of these trees. There are five species of cecropia native to Costa Rica.
