Greater Antillean (or Cuban) Oriole

Icterus (dominicensis) melanopsis

The race melanopsis of Greater Antillean Oriole has recently been recommended for separate species status, along with the other three races of this species. Cuban Oriole is a widespread endemic, though it is rarely very abundant. Flowering bottlebrush trees, e.g. around the crocodile farm at La Boca, in Zapata, are always good places to look for the species. Earlier, Greater Antillean Oriole had been treated as part of the Middle American Black-cowled Oriole.
