Palawan beach

The beaches look quite idyllic and initially we were puzzled as to why people did not build their homes close to the beach
or spend much time along the shore. We quickly found the answer to the puzzle -- during much of the year the beaches are infested by
small biting gnat-like insects ('nik-nik') that leave nasty welts that itch for weeks afterwards.
