Aldebaran, Alpha Tau, 87 Tau and numerous other designations is the Primary of a multiple star system in the constellation of Taurus. This star shines at a magnitude of 0.85 and has a spectrum of K5111 and is at a distance of around 65 light years, the star is slightly variable with a range of 0.75 to 0.95.
Aldebaran is superimposed against the Hyades, a coarse Open Cluster also known as Melotte 25, Collinder 50 or OCL 456, this cluster is some 150 light years away.
