On the promontory in shot,by the bend in the river, stood The Lunelly Tower, the remains of which litter the defended area in shot.It was a towerhouse of the Corries and Johnstones, in Dumfriesshire. The river, called The Water of Milk, after the alluvial deposits it flows over, giving a clouding effect.
