This deep amplified image done with the 1.2m aperture F2.5 Schmidt camera at Siding Spring
Observatory by David Malin ilustrates the extent of the Milky Way Cirrus dust in relation to
the field around the Pavo galaxy compared to a more traditional standard colour view of the galaxy.
NB: The resolution displayed here is much less than the original Schmidt plate would exhibit but
this photo certainly illustrates that modern imaging with a 6" scope can compare to photgraphic
results using a 1.2m class telescope from a generation ago, at least as far as image depth goes.
