IMG_0537.jpg

Chequamegon Forest, Wisconsin

Wide field shot of the Milky Way. 3:00 am local. Pointed nearly straight up through some trees. Post processing included several steps to brighten and enhance contrast: curves, levels, dup background layer and add blur - blend mode set to linear dodge and reduce opacity. NEAT final result to soften stars and reduce noise.

I'm somewhat bugged by the fact that tree silhouettes appear on three sides. That will be disorienting to some. Picture looking straight up at the sky through an opening in some trees, and you'll get the idea exactly.

Shot from Martin Hanson's property west of Mellen, WI.

Love the pic!! A+

I did a 300+ second shot across a lake this year with the same lens and I found the stars moved a lot in that short period of time. I was unable to work out the trails with photoshop. However the effect was almost as dramatic as yours:http://www.pbase.com/mlabrador/image/113892277
