It's a very intiguing effect, to use noise over smoothing - it seems to remove the viewer one further step from the subject, which enhances the feeling of pensiveness and mystery in the subject's gaze.
I think the soft focus works very well with the grainy effect. Nice.

The pensive look and the use of grain to blur the image make for a romantic portrait. This is a skilled and artistic response to the topic, not at all surprising from Fremiet.
