Queen Mary 2 Sandwiched*
by Denise

San Francisco

Maritime history being made. The QM2 entering the Golden Gate. The largest ship to ever enter San Francisco Bay.
The day was very hazy and I am actually surprised I got this good of an image. I tried the various sharpening techniques for haze and they all looked terrible.
It was seredipity that I was even there to see her!! Plans change, things happen and I got lucky.

NOTE: The full EXIF is incorrect because I switched images. The tech notes below are correct.

Sony DSC-H5
1/320s f/6.3 at 28.4mm iso80 full exif

Man, this ship is huge. I love how you put things into perspective with the people on the rock. This makes it a striking image.

Great location to shoot from. The observers in the foreground and the flury of boats around the QM2 show the excitment of this event. I saw it on the news too. Thanks for posting your image. tcoen

Thanks, Katherine. The lighting was strange because there was sun in the foreground and much haze in the hills behind the ship. There were hundreds of small boats that went out into the ocean to meet the QM2 and follow her into the Bay. It was an astonishing sight. I first spotted her as a speck on the horizon. It was most exciting.

Beautiful capture - I love the colors and lighting, and the hazy look in the background! I'm surprised that it's so crowded with small boats all around the QM2.
