Round Pegs in a Square Hole
by Helen Betts

Washington, D.C.

The title comes from the fact that these three turreted houses are surrounded by angular ones, in case it's hard to tell ;-). Taken a block from my house on Capitol Hill.

Thanks, everyone, and Simon, yes it was a bit difficult to shoot, especially with my dog in tow, constantly pulling on me to get going. I had shot the same buildings the day before in poor weather and decided to wait for a nice day and go back. It was hard to get just the same angle and perspective from the middle of a busy street but finally ended up with this and the bonus of a beautiful blue sky.

Wow. Makes the houses on my street look positively dull by comparison. Sharp photo and good (if not difficult to work with?) composition. This shot compliments your other roof entry quite well.

Very nice! I like your composition here. The colors, the textures, the geometrical forms, everything is well balanced in a picture that pleased the eye. And what a beautiful deep blue sky!!!

Very nice capture and composition. The three different colors and perspective heights make this flow very nicely.

Nice composition - I love the colors, and the details and interesting shapes of the houses!

Helen, lovely composition.

It really woks very well. The tree on the right side gives a very good sense of dimension to the image. The colors are very nice. It is striking that the tiles of the roofs are different for each tower.

Helen, I like all the colors and the clean, rich architectural details in this photo. Great lighting and clarity... and nicely arranged along a diagonal. These homes look very well maintained. The clear, blue sky provides the perfect color contrast. Nice photo. MFC
