22-OCT-2006 Harvey Rawn

Pensive
by Harvey Rawn

Ojai, California

Being wary of photographing other people's children without permission, I went to a local farmer's market and used the LCD at waist level for some "candid camera" shots. This girl was standing beside her mother as they were buying a bouquet of cut flowers. The background was filled with distracting elements but her expression intrigued me, so I extracted a portrait of her.

She certainly does look as if her mind is elsewhere. --Melanie

Really a lovely portrait. I especially like the bright light but you have a great subject as well.

I share your hope, and want to think that the girl's family would like the result.

Harvey, it's just beautiful work. I'm a little concerned about how you got it. Here in China that would be perfectly fine, but in other places there is a lot of fear and concern for the safety of children. I'm glad that you didn't get into trouble, and I hope that anyone who might see this would understand that your motives were entirely artistic. jrdu
