This vertical lift drawbridge spans the Columbia River, joining Portland, Oregon, and Vancouver, Washington, and was completed in 1917. I was having dinner on the river, keeping my eye on the bridge and the setting sun, when all of a sudden the light was perfect and the metal was gleaming. Needless to say, my husband's family thought it was very curious when I jumped up, ran down to the riverbank and started shooting while my dinner got cold. There is a railroad bridge behind this one with a train crossing it, although it's a bit hard to see in this shot.
