Curtained Window by Eric Hatch

Deserted house in West Virginia. This is an opening to a story, a mystery story at that. What happned here? Did they run in panic? Did the old lady die without kin or neighbors to tidy up? Or is this just a metaphor; inside all of us, is there some attempt to make the world a homey place? Or maybe just evoking the spirit of Emily Dickinson? I don't know. I just know this image speaks to me every time I see it and I hope it speaks as well to you.

This has a very "classic" feeling to me. I love the overall composition, the light, and the details. -Michael Puff

Eric, I like the position of the curtain, the broken pane, the dark interior, and the shadow casts above and below...this place has character...and a history. MFC

Nicely captured, Eric, and beautiful lighting. The curtain in particular makes me wonder who lived here and what happened. Helen

Eric.. This narrative piece is quite like a painting..[wyeth comes to mind] the billowy curtain almost lovingly draped over the sill gives me a feeing of important guarded memories. Very strong angle into the picture plane ..invites the viewer to take a deeper look. Really Good contrast&focus/ perfect challenge entry. irish_eye

This is a wonderful photo, Eric - and one that could so easily be passed by without the 'photographer's eye'. Beautifully composed; a classic! Bev

I see Sadness here. Emptyness. Forgotten, Cast aside?.....but your capture of it is "Thought provoking". The composition, leaving in some of the wall/clapboard adds to the appeal of the photo, Eric.
