Afternoon Walk*
by Miguel Garcia-Guzman

Solana Beach, San Diego, California, USA

I took this image yesterday afternoon. I captured these people walking on the beach as they represent well the neighbors and the scenery in my neighborhood. You have the boy and the girls playing with the dog, and a surfer (although does not carry the surf board). I also wanted to convey the message that here in our area, the beach is the center of our community life. Often times you will find the locals (and of course the tourists in summer) enjoying this beautiful California coast.

I hope you enjoy the image and thanks very much for your feedback.

Excellent composition, and a very credible, highly salable family portrait. Good job!

It's all a matter of personal taste and preferences, Miguel :-) and yes, there are some handy 'rules' to follow but sometimes its good to have a group of people in the middle to focus on, especially in this case because the seascape leads diagonal thru the pic and the group follows it nicely. I think that makes your composition interesting...especially with the lovely reflections in the foreground...Bee

I tried to crop the image but unfortunately there is not much room, so even cropping and moving the subjects to the side there is not much improvement at all, and no sense of direction during the walk. So, thanks again for the feedback ... I will have to take it like it is.

Miguel, I'm pretty sure he means moving the group of people off center. If you were to try that, I would lean towards moving them to the left, creating a space for them to walk into, so to say. nice image!- gk

David and Andy, thanks for the comments.

Andy ... you mean cropping to center more the group of people in the image or just the country to move them a bit to one side?

Thanks

a very nice neighborhood you live in, miguel:) and nice image. well done. (*) i would try for a left or right crop here, moving the group juuuust a tad to one side or the other.
