Hey Ann. To get the effect on the trees, I isolated the church by a hand-drawn mask, then copied everything else to a new layer. I applied a Gaussian blur, radius 10, to the new layer. I then set its blend mode to Darken. Sometimes best to knock the opacity of the effect layer back a little (say, 75 to 90 percent), but in this case I left it at 100. As my Photoshop skills improve, I find myself using blend modes all the time. Feel free to email questions. Joe Reilly

Very interesting. I'd like to know how you achieved the effect on the trees. It's pretty cool. Ann M.

Very nice job, Joe. The trees have a fantastic look, and the little church jumps out. Excellent depth, which makes an image, as far as I'm concerned. jim/shutter
