Prayer
By Ernest Rex

South Africa

During our recent xenophobic attacks I visited a hill on the outskirts of Johannesburg. It was early & the sun was just bathing the area. I saw a number of people arriving to partake in prayer. This mother was in prayer while her little boy was playing in the grass. I decided the mother would make a good shot. As I was getting ready to snap, the little boy came and stood in front of his mother. I share the result. The mothers face was facing the sun.

Hello Ernest, great shot. I love black and whites more than color. Would you mind if I paint this pic? I'm a teacher but I like to paint a little as a hobby. I'll give you full credit for the shot on my web site (www.slrhome.weebly.com). Thanks.

This is beautiful--the light on the mother's clothing is wonderful. The mother alone would have been enough, but the child really adds to the story (and the photo of course).

Very moving image, and that light/shadow is spectacular.

Wow, what a great shot! I love the contrast between the black and the white, a perfect entry for the challenge! Thanks for sharing the story behind this image Ernest, that was interesting.
