2nd place (tie) - Old-fashioned Romance
by Helen Betts

Washington, D.C.

Talk about being in the right place at the right time! I had finished taking some pictures at the Lincoln Memorial and had just gotten into the car when this old Cadillac drives up and parks. I loved it and decided to go and shoot it when a bride and groom got out, and then several photographers appeared. I tried to be unobtrusive but in the end figured maybe they were models because the groom was wearing tennis shoes ;-).

Great capture Helen. Can't beat the H5 for being versatile. Bill

That old Cadillac sure has a lot of personality, but the smoochers are still the centre of attention. There are many things to admire in this shot.

Thank you bottles, Katherine and John! I usually do try to have my H5 with me as it's just so easy to carry (while my D300 and lenses sit at home), and this time it definitely paid off. As to the conversion, I actually used the B&W function on the camera. I do so little in B&W I can't even remember how to convert in PS :-).

Ah, you opportunist you!! Always there with the camera and boy! It pays off. Nicely done Helen!

Wonderful capture - I love the black/white conversion and the beautiful, shiny car!

Yes Helen, I prefer color myself if it's not over-saturated (with I feel is detrimental to details) but I will say that this image sure looks great in b&w :-)

Thank you, Frank and Daniel, for the kind comments! You know, I really don't care for B&W (which could be why I have zero such images in my archives), but IMO this picture wouldn't have looked right in color. Go figure!

Hooray! Lovely shot, the scene is great and besides your composition I like the reflections best!
