An ignoble end

Named for the Fraser River, HMCS Fraser was commissioned in 1957 as a destroyer escort. After a conversion to a destroyer helicopter escort (1966) and a life extension refit (1982) she was decommissioned in 1994. Following decommissioning she was purchased to be sunk as an artificial reef but retained for possible conversion to a museum. She currently sits as a deterioration hulk in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia - scarred by peeling paint and encroaching rust.

Wow does this bring back the old days to me...As a Sea Cadet in the early 70's I was on the HMCS Chaudier (sunk Dec. 5th 1992)and the HMCS Columbia (sunk June 22 1996).
I was also on HMCS Gatineau in the Navy for RIMPAC "77" she was decommissioned May 24th 1996 and I still think she is laied up along side HMCS Terra Nova at CFB Halifax.
They were to also be sunk for reefs. Excellent Steve thnaks for posting.....braVo..Mike
