The shroud is in very good condition in this housing.

The shroud is there to provide the clearance for the vane tips of the turbine fan. Too little clearance, and the blades hit the shroud and are damaged. Too much clearance, and efficiency is lost. As well as the proximity cooling that the shroud metal provides to the blades to help them shed some of the heat that they are subjected to.
