Fulgorid Planthopper, Diareusa sp. (Fulgoridae)

Tiputini Forest Reserve, Prov. Orellana, Ecuador

When Diareusa sp. spreads its wings, the beautifully polka-dotted hindwing is revealed. This patterning probably serves as startle colouration to confuse enemies.
