Night-flying Sweat Bee, Megalopta sp. (Halictidae)

Tiputini Forest Reserve, Prov. Orellana, Ecuador

Unlike most sweat bees, which forage in daylight, the large-eyed species of the genus Megalopta are active at night. This bee was one of several attracted to a light sheet at twilight.
