Tiger Beetle, Pseudoxycheila sp. (Carabidae: Cicindelinae)

Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve, Prov. Pichincha, Ecuador

This tiger beetle is similarly marked as a locally common velvet ant (below). This resemblance probably affords the tiger beetle some protection, as velvet ants are hard-bodied and can inflict a painful sting.
