Bess Beetle, Passalus sp. (Passalidae)

Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve, Prov. Pichincha, Ecuador

Despite its fearsome appearance, this large bess beetle is rather harmless. Note the small medial horn between the eyes, a character found among most passalid genera.
