spider meets hopper

Yasuní National Park, Prov. Orellana, Ecuador

I chanced upon some drama on a leaf - a face-off between a young tarantula (Avicularia hirschii sp.) and a grouse locust (Tetrigidae). Moments later, when the tetrigid tapped the nearest leg, the spider played chicken and beated a hasty retreat.
