Helicopter Damselfly, Microstigma rotundatum (Pseudostigmatidae)

Yasuní National Park, Prov. Orellana, Ecuador

Helicopter damselflies are the world's largest extant damselflies. The giant odes were difficult to spot in the shady undergrowth. The adults hover near spider webs to steal prey or pluck off the occupants. The naiads develop in phytotelmata of bromeliads.
Specimen collected by G.W. Otis.
