Biting Midge, Forcipomyia (Microhelea) sp. (Ceratopogonidae: Forcipomyiinae)

Yasuní National Park, Prov. Orellana, Ecuador

Stick insects are often harassed by biting midges, which imbibe haemolymph from wing veins and joints of the appendages or body. The grossly engorged flies eventually fall off the host. This individual biting a Pseudophasma is probably a species of Forcipomyia.
