Mosquito, Psorophora sp. (Culicidae)

Yasuní National Park, Prov. Orellana, Ecuador

Mosquitoes are common in the forest canopy, where they attack arboreal vertebrates such as birds and monkeys. The protozoan Plasmodium, which causes the disease malaria (present in Yasuni), is vectored by Anopheles spp. and not other culicids like this blood-fed Psorophora.
