I had been following this guy along the streets of downtown Detroit when he sat down on a ledge in Greektown.
I said hi to him, sat near him and introduced myself. "Mario" says he is 42 and lives on the streets. He says he
hangs out in the Greektown area because that is the heart of downtown. He says he can do that because the cops
know him and know he doesn't cause trouble. He says he has lived for years on the streets. We talked for quite a while,
he never smiled the whole time, but he seemed to be a gentle soul, articulate and knowledgeable.
