OK, here is todays experiment...The pic above is my usual - all but hasty - processing of a single (mid-exposure) image of tonights sunset which covers more than the 5 stops of light the sensor can register and below is a set of 3 shots at 2 stop spacing merged in HDR Darkroom. Which do you prefer...if any? I am trying to create an image that is close to what I saw at the time, rather than a surreal artificial image!

I like the HDR except for the sudden colour changes round the sun.
I find there so many sliders in Photomatix that it takes time (if you use Photomatix)to get the right combination, each shot is different.
But I have found that the Exposure fusion option in photomatix is well worth playing with.
More natural result.

This one does it for me. The HDR looks artificial. But I think I would have tried a third option to compare with the others - manually merging the bracketed shots in Photoshop to try to avoid that over-processed feeling which often comes with HDR.

I like this one, I find if HDR is done into the sun it makes the sky look very artificial. You can tel from the effect round the sun
