Took a few pictures up a nearby canyon this afternoon. It was a little early for really good light; so, I need to add just a little fill flash.

Pay attention to the background. Some of the maple leaves are beginning to turn. Fall is just around the corner.

What a pretty afternoon it was when we did this one! Although I remember having problems with the wind and sun in My eyes. I had tears streaming down My face because the wind and sun were so irritating. I had to keep wiping away the smeared the make-up and hope I could keep on smiling.

James, I use Photoshop CS. I don't think the last version (Photoshop7) had photo filters. If it did it is under Image>Adjustment>Photofilters

Thank you for adding your setup and post processing information. That is wonderful information for curious minds. And for newbies like myself it opens lots of doors. Ok a quick question maybe anyone could answer. When you said you added Photo filter 81A at 15% in Photoshop, was that from a plug-in or did it come with Photoshop? I am using PS 7 and don't see it in my filters pulldown.

vintage looking pic... i have been trying all day to recollect where i have seen an image similar to this...but, alas, i am brain dead. some movie poster??? i think not,,, just can't place it. anyway, great photo! ty u2, sally

Thanks for your PhotoShop workflow, and the technical info. The polarizer really helps the sky but I know out west you get great blue skys!
By the way, Wanda looks a little bit cold, maybe she should have worn that flannel shirt a bit longer before the shot! :-)

Nice landscape for sure and again nice to see how the shape of the clouds match the skyline of the mountains in the background. I like to study the harmony of the climbing cumulus clouds in mountain regions since they allways match the skyline of the mountains.
If I see Wanda here, seems that the wind was somewhat fresh there as well.

Here is a quick run down on the setup and processing. To start with I shot the image in RAW and converted it with C1LE. I used a 550EX flash for fill. I think maybe it could have been turned down the flash another 1/3 of a stop. It woulds have still filled the shadows but just not so much as the setting I used. The Canon 24-70f/2.8L lens was focused at hyper-focal distance. At f/8 to f/11 this lens is just simply very sharp with great color and contrast. I used a Hoya PRO1 circular polarizer filter which helps with the color saturation. I paid attention to the histogram on the camera and the exposure was spot on.

In photoshop I did a minor levels adjustment. Then I did a local area contrast adjustment with the unsharp mask filter values 20/50/0. After that I tweaked the saturation: +3%Blue, +3%Red and +4%Green. I added Photo filter 81A at 15%. Then I resized for the web and added unsharp mask filter at values 350/.2/3 and converted to sRGB. That was it.

Yes I was thinking the same thing about the colors. Like a old western filmed in B&W and then painted by hand in color, or panavision. Was it a PS filter?

Bill, the colors in this image are simply fabulous! It almost has the feel of some of the old movie posters, back when colors ran true to life. Great job!
