A Flower in the Road.jpg

You can see the damage the ATVs(All Terrain Vehicles)are doing. These little hills are being worn away by vehicle traffic. This arid area is very delicate. Along with the poppies and brush the sand hills are covered by cryptobiotic soil covering. Cryptobiotic soil include soil lichens, mosses, green algae, microfungi and bacteria. This soil is the cement that holds these hills together. If damaged it can take a minimum of 45 years to repair. The erosion caused by the ATVs is devastating.
