Wanda04_21_04a.jpg

I really like this photo. I have also uploaded a black and white version. Wanda prefers the color and I like the B&W. What do you think?

I prefer the B&W one but this one is nice too

Both are great but my preference is towards the color - skin texture and tone is paramount here. Creative lighting as well.

Beautiful lighting. Great photo.

What a pleasure to go back and forth between b&w and color, trying to decide. I think that maybe with grain added, I might go for the b&w. As it is her skin tones are so compelling in color that I have to go with it.

I like the color one best.

Well, I saw the B&W first, and thought that the lack of color made the shot, but now, seeing her beautiful skin color, it's a really hard call. I think you could do her in any color and she'd be stunning.

stunning serie...

Bill,

Yes, the color for me too. Wanda has a nice warm skin tone color that should not be left to graytones in an image such as this one. Nice composition too I might add.

Colour 4 me - it's the skin tones that do it in this one?
Guest 22-Apr-2004 17:57
And it worked out so well!!!

Angela, yes it was light painted with a old mini mag flash light. It was your threads and light painting photos over in dpreviews 10D forum that gave me the inspiration to try it here. My more normal lighting approach just wasn't working. So, it was experiment time.

Both are truly exquisite. Did you light paint this? Gorgeous. Love her pose. She's SUCH a good sport for doing this, I know how tiring it can be in front of a camera (I sometimes get p*ssed at myself while doing self portraits, and then the bickering to myself starts and it's just downhill from there :oÞ) lol. Seriously though, I can't choose between the two... the B&W definitely holds more mood, which I love, but there's something magical about this color version with the luxurious skin tones and hair color and highlights from the light that just aren't there with the B&W version. Indeed very hard to choose. I'm sure I could come back here 10 times and each time I'd fancy one over the other and switch back and forth.

I prefer the color image. Great work either way.

Beautiful lighting and subject here. I love the way you always have something new for us with Wanda every day.

I have to say that the skin tones make this image better than the b&w. Just my opinion. Nicely done.

Well that is cool!

Mindi, I set the camera to manual with a 10 second exposure. I turned the lights off in the room. Then as soon as I clicked the shutter; I used a flash light with a narrow beam of light to paint in the light. Each exposure the light pattern was a little different. This one we liked the best out of about 10 exposures.

oh, ok, here it is!! I was here before you loaded this one....

Hmmmm. I have to say, after careful consideration, that I prefer...........THIS ONE!!! I'm one Wanda's side, the skin tones are lovely here!!

So, what is the secret on your lighting? How did you do it?
