Thanks guys! I appreciate the collective comments. I watched that very race on tv and wished I was there too Bernie. I clearly remember, to this day, my huge dissappointment when learning that Porsche was no longer the marque.

Camaros? You've got to be kidding me! : (

Armando,

Yes, the IROC’s were 1974 year model cars as their chassis numbers would indicate, however the initial group of cars were built in 1973. The main features were a revised engine with a new capacity of 2992.55 cc, modified front & rear spoilers, wider wheels & tires but the weight remained @ 1985 lbs. The new 74’ Carrera RSR was available to customers in April of 1974. However, the first 15 examples were debuted at the LA times Grand Prix Can-Am finale race as a support race called the International Race Of Champions in the fall of 1973. (Yes, I was there!!!) Mack Donohue won both the Can-Am race and 2 of the 3 IROC races that weekend. The photo’s I provided were from the IROC @ Riverside California in the Fall of 1973.

I hope this clarifies things a bit…

Bernie

Just a minor correction; The IROC Porches were 74's not 73's. Please see the certificate of origin. These cars were basically an upgrade of the 2.8 RSR and were the first 3.0L RSR's. They were built in 1973, but went to Roger Penske as 74's. Oh and by the way Slidevalve RSR is a misnomer for the 75's. They had slide throttles!
