The lighting in this image is very similar to when LCROSS impacts on October 9th 2009. The libration on
the day will tilt the limb further back than shown here. (image taken in poor seeing at an altitude of 30 deg)
On October 9th 2009 11:30 UT (7:30am EDT) the LCROSS mission's Centaur upper stage rocket will
impact the crater Cabeus, followed by a second smaller impact of the LCROSS mothership four minutes
later. It is hoped that the impact plume will be visible to amateurs in western North America and the
Pacific using scopes of around 10" aperture.
