The image on the left shows sunlight (from the left) reflected off the bright crater wall (right) and into the small crater. The image on the right has been enhanced to better show the lower light level that is also reflected into the larger crater, you can see these shadows within shadows have flipped and now show illumination from the right. The location is near the farside crater Zhukovskiy and the phenomenon was discovered in this conveniently overexposed Apollo 16 image by the intrepid lunar sleuth Danny Caes as part of his investigations on the Moon Wiki
