The Horsehead Nebula in Orion

Optics: CPC1100 at f6 on a Milburn Wedge
Camera: QHY8
Image scale at capture: 0.89 arcsecs per pixel, Cropped and resized to 2/3 scale for presentation
Exposure: 23 x 30 minutes
Guiding: PHD Guiding, using a Meade DSI Pro II on a Taurus Tracker III off axis guider. Dithering performed with Nebulosity 2.
Date: November 7, 13 and 14, 2010
Processing: Stacked with Deep Sky Stacker, post-processed with Photoshop CS2.

This was my first wide-field nebula shot, and was very challenging. Because I used rather different orientations each night, the two stacking programs I used, Deep Sky Stacker and Nebulosity 2, found it very difficult to stack the images properly. Both programs introduced a moire pattern during the registration process. I finally got Neb2 to stack it without the pattern, although I'm still not sure how.

other sizes: small medium large original auto
