Yoros Castle

A top the hill at Anadolu Kavagi, on a site of an ancient temple dedicated to Zeus, the Byzantines built a castle, Yoros Castle; on the opposite side on the hill at Rumeli Kavagi, 100 years earlier Manuel I Comnenus had built Imros Castle for defense and customs dues for passing ships purposes. Both castles have been taken successively by the Genoese and Ottomans, in the 14th and 15th c. respectively.

The remains of the castles have been used for long as natural setting for romantic pictures and wedding ceremonies.

The hill at Anadolu Kavagi is a unique vantage point of the last stretch of the Bosphorus to the Black Sea. Here we stand on the Asian side looking at the European waters of the Black Sea, the legendary Pontus Euxinus. The view is breathtaking and you want to fix it in your memory before returning home.
