I love wandering in cemeteries... especially old cemeteries.
There is a certain peacefulness that I like.
I am fascinated by the tombstones and I would like to know who all these people are.
What was their life like? What would they tell me if they could come back?
What made them happy? What made them sad? Who did they love?
What was important in their life and what would they do differently?
What caused their death?
So many questions but no answers to be had. Just silence.
For them it is too late but we are here. We are alive. If only we could learn from those who have gone before us.
They do have stories to tell. But now we must search for them.
Perhaps that is why I like obituaries so much... the last chance to tell your story.
And we all have a story to tell. Who would you like to tell your story to?
It is not too late.
As photographers, we have the technical ability now to put our photographs and our words in books,
but our lives are busy and we do not think about taking the time to do that, and then the unthinkable happens.
An illness, an accident, something unforeseen, and we have missed our chance.
Life is all too short and as you age, you suddenly realize that.
When you are young, you think life will go on forever.
You cannot imagine losing your parents, your siblings, your closest friends.
You push aside the possibility... the inevitable. Another day. Another day.
Begin now. Write your story. Choose the photos to illustrate your story and make a book.
What do you want other people... like your family, to remember about you?
Tell them about your first memories growing up.
Tell them your hopes and dreams as a young child.
Tell them about your achievements as well as your disappointments in life.
Tell them what you might do differently.
Tell them who you are and what matters the most in your life.
No two stories will be alike but I guarantee that your story will be cherished by those you love and we can all learn from your life experiences.
Share your story... before it's too late.
