Years ago a fellow photographer found a ringed rock on the ground and handed it to me saying, "A ringed rock is supposed to bring good luck. Here... this is for you."
I have carried that ringed rock in my backpack, my photo vest, or my pocket each time I go out shooting.
I'm not so sure it has magical powers; however, it is comforting knowing it is there.
As a nurse, I care for patients of many ethnic and religious backgrounds. They have developed their beliefs and customs through their families, their life experiences, and their culture. At a time when they are under great stress, these beliefs become vitally important to their well-being. As a professional, I understand this and will do everything I can to honor and respect those beliefs and to call in the appropriate support as is needed. I feel it is not my place to interject my own beliefs but rather seek out the support needed to bring strength and comfort in a time of uncertainty for the patient and the family. This is always appreciated.
