This is an astonishing shot - I really like the way you treat the contrast and lighting here.

Agree with Lawrence. Like at a concert. Although the thumbnail was showing me bowling pins.

I'm almost speechless! One of your best pictures playing with light and abstraction. They seemed to be slowly consumed by the darkness or on a postive side, they're slowly seeing the light... It certainly commanded my attention and silence, as I sat and watched, waiting for the history to unfold and be seen again... Biggest vote.

Fantastic. Perfect. Powerful.
J'aime le dépouillement de cette image, qui donne à la lumière et aux formes toute leur force. Bravo!

Oh my Kal, the possibilities you have in China! If I wouldn't have had the image of Phil, I would've never known what this really was: a real army or not. Being able to picture them this way is an art alone. Pure abstraction of what probably is well-known, makes people look at it differently, thus probably seeking a story. Goal achieved!

I love the way you have this army marching down into hell. When I visited Xian a few years ago, I took the opposing viewpoint, and have the Emperors soldiers marching into the light of day at It is amazing how just a shift in vantage point can tell an entirely different story, but still use the interplay of light and shadow as the driving force behind the image. Wonderful image, Kal -- a particularly liked the headless soldier in your image, which symbolized to me the mindless obedience of the military creed.

Oh, this is wonderful Kal. Timeless. Implacable.

Haunting how you have them descending into darkness. - J

Excellent shot - from the thumb, I actually thought it was a shot of the inside of a cinema. These warriors are witnesses of a different kind. Fantastic light and love the natural lines...

You've captured the real mystery and presence that surround this great army. Awe inspiring. Shadow changes into bone!

Brilliant indeed... you give life to those Witness of Time.
The one without a head is powerful as well.

With just enough light to discern the important details... The kind of photo that I can't quite resist and looks stunning in b&w. It's almost like we've opened a crack on a door somewhere, took a peek and stood there, open mouthed at the scene unfolding before our eyes...

This is brilliant, Kal --- this seems like how an archaeologist, flashing his light, would have seen these figures for the first time, astounded, of course, and still unable to comprehend his discovery's importance. Bravo!!!
