The Fourteenth Corps was ordered into active military
service at Brownwood, Texas, on December 19th, 1942, and
officially embarked for the Pacific Theater on January 25th, 1943.
The shoulder patch worn by the XIV Corps was approved by the AGO
on September 29th, 1923, when the Corps was allocated to the
Organized Reserves located in the deep South. The Shield is
Confederate grey, and the blue saltire (cross) is from the
Confederate battle flag. The cross also forms a Roman numeral
"X" for "10" and indicates the unit's designation when added
to the four points of the caltrap.
