11th Airborne Division:
The Angels.

The 11th Division was activated on February 25th, 1943, with
Headquarters at Camp Mackall, North Carolina and assigned to
the Airborne Command. After airborne training and participation
in the Louisiana Maneuvers in 1944, the Division embarked
for overseas in April of 194
The shoulder patch for the 11th was approved by the AGO on
January 4th, 1943. The blue shield suggests Infantry, and the
winged disc with the number "11" represents the unit's number
and mode of attack by air. The 11th Airborne Division is
considered a different unit than the 11th Division of WW I
and does not share its history.
