Entire Trip, Day 1..5
<< Day 1, Arrival in Balboa | Day 3, Avalon >> Really Bad Weather was in sight, but just to the South of us. We got lucky! Mere 12 hours after our arrival in Avalon a coastal warning to "Seek Harbor" was issued, and yet everything cleared for our journey back to Newport! We enjoyed calm seas. We kept all the time a watchful eye on the current development, we listened to maritime radio reports and watched satellite images on the web... We arrived Avalon in a miserable light, not very inviting for making good photography. Regardless of the weather we were in good spirits looking forward to walking the promenade and to tasting our thanksgiving turkey. Difference to former visits: Meanwhile the Water Taxi became so expensive that virtually every yacht arrived with its own dinghy. Considering the price of $4.50 per person and trip this really makes sense. The problem was docking of the dinghy. The pontoons were very crowded. Everybody was forced to work its way slowly through the countless tied down dinghies to reach the dock. Patience and courtesy is required. Use long painter to allow others similar method of docking. |
