Eleven Months Later

Bellaire in Lakeview, New Orleans

Sitting on the porch of a house that had 10 feet of floodwater, these ladies try to salvage some of their family photos. I think perhaps 10 out of 1,000 were salvageable. The house has not even been gutted yet.
People elsewhere wonder why victims of Katrina have not moved on. You cannot move on until you finish what is here. Insurance has to be settled, something has to be done with the house and on and on. It was 110 degrees heat index when I was taking this photo and I cannot imagine that the little shade of that moldy house helped the one sitting in the doorway.

the anniversary is around the corner . . the height of the hurricane season is yet to come . . .my anxiety is growing and I don't even LIVE there!
God's strength to all in the Gulf area, not just New Orleans, but everywhere Katrina 'visited'

Move on? Home is home.
Many people never want to leave their roots.
I admire that.
