Little Children's Wading Pool

Entrance to Carousel Gardens

The wading pool is about 20 feet long. The sculptures and monument upon which they sit were built along with the pool in 1935 by the Works Progress Administration, a government program founded by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to give work to people following the Great Depression. Many of the beautiful sculptures and bridges in the Park were established during this period.
You don't see donations like this anymore, probably because the government takes all the money in taxes and there is none left for philanthropic endeavors.
Many, many New Orleans children hold this pool in their heart of memories.
Except for water marks this was not damaged by Hurricane Katrina as it sat under the live oaks.

Ah, wonderful to see. I played in this wading pool with my cousins when I was little. It's more beautiful than I remembered. I live in CA now. What sweet sadness to see these beautiful photos. I was worried about the beautiful old oaks and your site have relieved me. Thank you so much.
