Stone Bridge Ready for Company- October 4, 2005

New Orleans City Park

I gave the little bridge her dignity back today, but it will take more than me to do the rest. This is the bridge that is world-famous and no one visits City Park without having a photo taken on it. Notice the yellow vegetation killed by the flood waters and the piles of dead limbs in the background.
I had a pile of tree branches about six feet high behind me that I cleared away. I used a broom and a rake and the heat and humidity was unbearable and I had to move very slowly to keep the energy flowing. I could tell how high the water had gotten and how long it stayed as I cleaned the steps. Perhaps when a cool front comes through I'll try some more. It was soooo hot and should I pass out there, no one would find me but the raccoon who was watching waiting to eat my face; she was so hungry. The Park is totally empty and so quiet; not a bird, not a cricket or even a breeze. I must be crazy being in here alone, but I do have my Smith and Wesson .38 on my waist.
In the meantime, our little stone bridge looks pretty again. Now, if only I could get my house this pretty. My fragrance these days is "Eau de Clorox."

What a big improvement ... but I am a bit worried about the racoon eating your face! ;)

It's looking nice - very cool of you to care and put so much work into it.

I'm impressed with your concern and dedication to the birds and the park after all that everyone there has gone through. I watch your galleries each day but have made no comments. I do appreciate your efforts to give us that personal touch with your photographs. Thank you
Ed

It´s wonderful how you care about people, trees and your own city; specially when the worst things happen.

Great job Coleen, the bridge stood up well to the storms.

A fine job Coleen. I for one appreciate your passion for this fine public space. I do hope that the park employees are not on that list of city workers the mayor is laying off.
Monte Stevens05-Oct-2005 14:59
Looks pretty clean to me and I like how you framed the bridge.

work - its a lovely shot of the little bridge.

What a beautiful job you did. I hope the park people are not among those who got laid off. It's great you had enough energy left over to take a picture.

nice work indeed, if only everyone was like you your town would be fixed up and ready again in no time.

Good clean up job. I just heard that New Orleans will lay off 3000 non-essential workers.

You did a wonderful job cleaning this up. It looks brand new and it was well worth the work.

Well done, Coleen. Ceaning up and tidying up can be very therapeutic. I hope there can be some small positives come out of the situation. You are certainly providing the example.
